LHC™ Low Head Composite Ingot Casting Technology
In addition to utilizing production and quality benefits of Wagstaff SplitJet™ Curl Reduction Technology, LHC molds incorporate a graphite bore into its aluminum mold – a patented technology that is proven to produce premium cast surfaces and ideal metallurgical properties in rolling ingot. This graphite bore serves as a reservoir for casting lubricant, using only 3-5% of the normal amount of oil consumed in conventional direct chill casting. The graphite bore is also replaceable which significantly extends the life of the mold. Ingots produced by the LHC process have minimal butt curl and very small shell zones, resulting in superior surfaces and high recovery rates. The high quality of ingots produced with LHC molds yield significant savings in downstream scalping and edge trimming operations.
