Mold Table Mounting Systems

Mold Table Tilting Style

The tilting system consists of two arms, protruding above the cast house floor level, connected to a common pivot tube below floor level.  Hydraulic power supplies the force required to tilt the mold table into the “raised” position. The design includes safety devices that lock the tilt system in position upon loss of hydraulic pressure. The tilt system will remain locked in position until hydraulic pressure is restored. Hydraulic pressure can be supplied by either the casting machine hydraulic power unit or a small dedicated hydraulic power unit.

Both “wet” and “dry” tilt systems are available, and each system is designed to fit existing or new casting pits. Cooling water is supplied through the tilting system structure and then into the mold table with a wet tilting system. Field piping is connected to the tilting system through a flanged connection. A dry tilting system will accurately position the mold table so the mold table directly engages field water supply piping connections located above the cast house floor. Both types of tilting systems can be used for rolling ingot and extrusion billet casting systems.

Mold Table Tilt System Options

  • Pit Shield with/without integrated casting pit lights
  • Pit shield with/without integrated steam exhaust plenum
  • Full frame structure for existing customer mold tables with multiple water entries
  • Distribution trough lift and tilt hardware are available for rolling ingot systems
  • Dedicated hydraulic power unit
  • Mold table maintenance platform

Rolling Carriage Style

The mold table carriage system consists of a robust structural frame which travels on four wheel assemblies. The wheels follow tracks embedded in the cast house floor. Power for moving the carriage can be supplied by either hydraulic drives or electric drives depending upon customer preference.

A power track connects lines for hydraulic and electrical power, compressed air, and mold lubrication oil to the carriage. The power track is installed in parallel to the carriage travel and can be recessed into the casthouse floor or supported overhead depending upon customer preference. The carriage can be used for rolling ingot and extrusion billet casting systems. The carriage can include the optional integrated tilt system to allow mold maintenance procedures be performed to the underside of the billet mold table between casts and to allow access to cooling water hoses on rolling ingot mold tables.

Mold Table Carriage System Options:

  • Tilt System
  • Pit lights mounted to carriage
  • Steam exhaust plenum mounted in pit wall
  • Distribution trough lift and tilt is available for rolling ingot systems
  • Dedicated hydraulic power unit
  • In floor or elevated power track
  • Mold table maintenance platform
